Daily Work Spotlight: Aaron Milum
Tell us a bit about your daily work. What do you do?
In my role as a Financial Analyst in the homebuilding industry, I support the division’s strategic and financial goals through budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, marketing, event spend tracking, and executive reporting. Much of my day is devoted to analyzing data to identify trends, evaluate performance, and provide decision support insights that help leadership allocate resources effectively. I work closely with teams across construction, sales, marketing, and operations to ensure that financial information is accurate, timely, and actionable. Ultimately, my work helps promote transparency and alignment between financial performance and organizational strategy.
How does your work pursue truth, create beauty, and/or do good?
Finance, at its core, is a pursuit of truth. Numbers reveal reality—they do not lie, though they may require discernment to interpret correctly. By maintaining accuracy and integrity in analysis, I help ensure that decisions are based on truth rather than assumptions. This pursuit of truth serves the greater good of the organization by promoting stewardship, accountability, and trust. In a broader sense, financial order creates a form of “beauty” in business—where clarity replaces confusion and good stewardship enables people and communities to flourish through responsible growth and homebuilding.
In what ways are you reflecting the Lord’s character in your daily work? In other words, what characteristic(s) of God are you imagining as you seek to do your particular work excellently?
I strive to reflect the Lord’s character through patience, wisdom, and faithfulness in my daily responsibilities. Financial analysis often requires waiting for trends to reveal themselves and maintaining composure under pressure—an opportunity to mirror God’s patience and steadfastness. I also seek wisdom from the Lord in interpreting data and advising others, recognizing that true understanding comes from Him (Proverbs 2:6). By working diligently and with integrity, I hope to demonstrate that excellence and humility can coexist, and that even analytical work can be an act of worship.
How do you see your daily work as a direct response to the cultural mandate (Genesis 1:28)?
The cultural mandate calls humanity to steward creation and bring order out of chaos. My role fulfills this mandate through the stewardship of financial resources and organizational structure. Budgeting and forecasting bring order, clarity, and sustainability to the complex work of homebuilding. By helping ensure wise investment, responsible planning, and thoughtful resource allocation, I participate in the cultivation of what God has entrusted to us. Financial stewardship, when done ethically and wisely, reflects the Creator’s intent for human work—to organize, sustain, and enhance what has been given for the good of others.
In what ways is your work meaningful as an expression of your faith, beyond just serving as a platform for evangelism or as a witness?
My work is meaningful as an expression of faith because it is a daily act of diligence and obedience. Proverbs 21:5 reminds us that “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance.” Every analysis, forecast, and report becomes an opportunity to honor God through careful planning, honesty, and excellence. I view my work as worship—not because of its title or visibility, but because it allows me to serve faithfully and bring value to others. By ensuring financial accuracy and promoting wise decision-making, I contribute to God’s redemptive work in business: creating order, sustaining communities, and helping others flourish.
What encouragement would you offer to someone who feels like their work is disconnected from their faith?
I would encourage them to remember that all work—when done with integrity and excellence—can glorify God. Faith is not confined to overtly “spiritual” professions; it is demonstrated in the attitude, quality, and purpose behind what we do. Whether it involves balancing budgets, designing homes, or leading teams, each task can serve as an act of stewardship and worship. God delights in honest work, thoughtful planning, and faithful service. When we view our work through that lens, we begin to see it not as separate from faith, but as a vital expression of it.
Daily Work Spotlights are part of a series of conversations with believers who are pursuing excellence in their daily work while seeking to honor God in all they do. Through these interviews, we aim to show how faith shapes the way we approach our vocations, from the decisions we make to the way we serve others.
Each story offers a glimpse into the lives of men and women who see their work as more than a job. They are connecting faith to their daily tasks, striving to reflect Christ in their industries, workplaces, and communities..
