Liturgies of Labor: A Liturgy for Confession at Work — Naming Limits, Failures, and Anxieties
Lord, here is the truth I often try to hide:
I am not limitless.
I do not get everything right.
Some days my efforts fall short,
my patience runs thin,
and my fears speak louder than my faith.
So I bring You what I’d rather conceal:
the task I mishandled,
the words I regret,
the decision I avoided,
the expectations I couldn’t meet,
the heaviness I carried alone.
I confess my limits:
the boundaries of my energy,
the edges of my understanding,
the reality that I am human
and unable to do all things well.
I confess my failures:
not to be crushed by them,
but to be freed from pretending.
I confess my anxieties:
the worries about disappointing others,
losing opportunities,
or being exposed as inadequate.
Into all these places,
speak Your mercy.
Let grace loosen what shame has tightened.
Let honesty become the beginning of healing,
not the end of hope.
Teach me to rise again—
not by ignoring what is broken,
but by trusting that You meet me
precisely where I fall short,
and You do not turn away.
Amen.
