Liturgies of Labor: A Liturgy for Commutes (Car, Bus, Train, or Walking)

Lord, this stretch of road—

these minutes between here and there—

often feels wasted.

But today I give it to You.

Let this commute become a quiet room

where my thoughts settle

and my spirit slows down.

As I move toward the work ahead,

steady my heart.

Clear the clutter in my mind.

Help me release the worries I carried out the door.

Keep me attentive to those around me—

the tired driver beside me,

the child at the bus stop,

the worker beginning their own long day.

Let this ordinary travel

remind me that You go with me

into every ordinary thing.

Make this a small beginning of peace

before whatever waits for me on the other side.

Amen.
